In this series we look at one of three short stories Jesus told responding to accusations that he paid too much attention to those struggling with their “sin condition” and that He spent too much time with them. Charles Dickens and Ralph Waldo Emerson said it was the best short story ever written! It is probably best known by the title THE PRODIGAL SON. Interestingly, Jesus doesn’t tell the story to focus on the foolishness of this wisdom-challenged son, but on the unbelievable mercy of the Father. As we’ll see from the story today, this dad was the kind of dad that no matter what you’d done, you knew you could always come back home to him. He was truly a dad for those who need a “DO-OVER”! We all need a parent like that, and so do our kids.
